I have been painting for over 50 years of my life.Painting, drawing, designing are part of the creative mosaic that makes up who I am.I began formal training by taking watercolour painting under the brush of Margaret Messer in Regina. At high school I had taken special drafting, preparing for either a career as an engineer or a Lutheran pastor.I chose the path of ministry but changed into education. Along the way - my art continued. Many walls at the seminary bore full size murals from moose in water to images of Jesus.
When I returned to Regina, married, to start a career in teaching, my creative juices burst forward as I now embraced a full evening hypnotic show, branched out into a 50 year sojourn as a professional magician, developed a professional clown character - Petals, and performed and taught puppetry.
I taught oil painting and slowly slid into acrylics.
I retired from my professional education career at the early age of 51 years -to start a new life in both the ministry and Rotary, but at the same time my wife became terminally ill. This struggle of hers with a rare autoimmune disease - Myasthenia gravis coupled together with 4 time recurring thymomas - encapsulated tumours, and exacerbated by asthma and COPD altered and consumed our life for the next 15 years until her death. During this time I worked in acrylics but slowly saw myself returning to the purity of watercolours.
In 2004, I married an Anglican priest - Cheryl, who is the chaplain at Luther College at the University of Regina. We lead worship together in three rural Lutheran churches I have been serving for the last 10 years.I have returned to University and am a seminarian at Carey Theological Seminary on the UBC Campus. I am working toward a Master of Divinity degree and hopefully a doctorate will follow
Today I have returned to some acrylic but paint mostly in watercolours and spend my time on landscapes and florals.
I hope you enjoy your visit here in the magic of watercolour.
